The Pros And Cons Of Selling Your Iphone To A Re-Seller Rather Than A Private Buyer

Posted on: 8 October 2017

The newest iPhone has just been released. And this means that many people are looking to sell their old iPhones. If you have just purchased a new phone and have an old iPhone lying around, you may be looking to sell yours to get some money for something that you are not using. When you are looking to do this, you have two primary options. You can sell your iPhone to a private buyer, typically by placing it on eBay or an online classified site, or you can sell it to a re-seller. A re-seller is typically a retailer who will fix it up, wipe it and then flip it to someone else. Learning the pros and cons of both methods will help you determine which is the best way to get rid of your old iPhone.

The Cons of Selling Your iPhone to a Re-Seller Rather Than a Private Buyer

  • You May Get Less Money

One of the biggest downside to selling your old iPhones to a re-seller is that you typically get less money for your phone than you would be selling the phone to a private buyer. This is because the re-seller has to turn around and sell your phone to someone else, so they need to offer you less than someone would pay in order to make a profit for themselves.

  • Re-Sellers May Not Always Want Your Phone

The other downside to selling to a re-seller is that they may not always have a need for your phone. When a new model iPhone comes out, re-sellers are inundated with old models. If they have a lot of inventory, they may not always buy yours. As such, in some cases, you may have to search around to find a re-seller who wants to buy your phone, which can be just as time consuming as finding a private buyer.

The Pros of Selling Your iPhone to a Re-Seller Rather Than a Private Buyer

  • You Can Sell Broken or Damaged Phones

One of the biggest benefits to selling your iPhone to a re-seller is that most re-sellers will take broken or damaged phones. Private buyers do not want an iPhone with a cracked screen or a battery that drains quickly. But a re-seller may be able to fix the problem and flip the phone, making them a great option for getting rid of your damaged phone.

  • You Don't Have to Worry About Scams

The other major advantage to selling your iPhone to a re-seller is that you don't have to worry about scams. When you deal with private buyers, you may have to deal with scam artists offering you fake money orders or people who simply flake and waste your time. This is not anything you have to worry about when you deal with a re-seller who has their own brick and mortar store.

You can typically get more money for an old iPhone that is in good condition by selling it to a private buyer. But then you have to go through the hassle of meeting up with the buyer and making the exchange. If you are looking to get money for your old phone fast, a re-seller may be the better choice for you.
